Apart from short term health insurance plans, if eligible, one can opt to be covered under COBRA. The main advantage of COBRA is, there is no limitation of time as it is there in case of short term health insurance and one can remain covered under the previous employer’s insurance program even after joining a new company. The flipside is, the premium is little higher than the short term insurance plans. But nevertheless, the person’s health condition is not an issue here, unlike the short term health plans. If COBRA applies, with little higher premium payment, one can remain covered for more time.
