Finding a career with a future

You’re heading on to University and your dad’s pushing you to go into medicine, but you don’t want to be a doctor!

Even if you’re an adult and this scenario doesn’t ring true – there often seems to be a battle between the inner visionary and the pragmatist. The good news is that you can both be happy once you realise all the varied opportunities there are in big industries like health care.

Truthfully, with today’s economy as volatile as it is it doesn’t hurt to look for career fields that actually have a future. From green technology to medical jobs, there are certain careers that are thriving because there is simply more demand than is being met. With health care you can still pursue almost any field your heart desires, be it Accounting, Human Resources, Graphic Design/Marketing, Insurance – even Food and Hospitality. Look at the workings of a hospital, alone – if it was just a bunch of doctors running the show who would do all the rest of the work? And if a hospital isn’t your thing then consider all of the avenues available in private practises – from office management to sales.

With a little research you may find any number of avenues to pursue – ones that have potential for future growth and that actually interest you. Chances are you will be able to find work in the medical industry whilst still being true to yourself. And if your dad thinks it was all his idea? All the better.
