It’s well into summer and you know what that means – Camping! But as you gather supplies for that family weekend getaway you realise you haven’t been trekking since before the kids were born – and your outdated gear sorely reflects that. So before you go, make sure you have all the proper camping equipment you’ll need and it will make for a much more pleasant holiday.

To help you choose your new gear, you may first want to assess your camping style. Will you be staying close to your auto? If so, your tent can be a good bit more elaborate than if you were hoping to hike it in. These days tents can range from simple, solo shelters to multi-room homes away from home. Will the children be sleeping in the same space? If so, be sure to allow for enough room for all – and err on the side of generosity so everyone is comfortable. Also consider where you’ll be camping and the standard weather conditions. Will you require a tent that can withstand wind gusts? If so, make sure that is part of your criteria in choosing.

And what about bedding? Will you be using foam mats? Air mattresses? Cots? This isn’t to overwhelm you, so much as to give you the chance to really think on what will make your family most comfortable. Be sure to remember sleeping bags, and also consider the temperature rating you’ll need your bedding to withstand.

Be sure to also get solid and reputable cooking equipment as well because it will help turn your outing from a comedy of errors into a fun and memorable excursion for the whole family.

Your daughter is gearing up to be a science whiz; she keeps taking first place in anything she takes interest in. She’s particularly intrigued by botany, just loves plants. She’s one of those teens that actually likes homework;  you’re not really sure where she gets it from.

And now it’s time for your family to have a holiday. What better time to celebrate the news that your daughter’s just received a full-ride scholarship to university? So you’re taking her on a proper vacation to the countryside. You’ve heard that whilst you and the Mrs. are lounging by the pool, your daughter can take any number of braniac excursions in the woods surrounding your villa. Not exactly your idea of a vacation but your daughter is thrilled.

Thankfully, forest holidays can keep the entire family happy, no matter what your interests. Your wife wants a full-day Spa treatment, your son loves sailing, and you can’t wait to be on the lake, fishing; it’s all right because a reputable forest resort will offer all that and more. What about horseback riding, scuba diving or archery? You can also tour quaint villages and historical inns and churches, whilst your wife follows in the footsteps of her favourite author; there is no limit to the varied forms of entertainment on hand.

The best part is the surprising affordability of such a vacation – well, that and the flexibility to keep everyone happy. So go on ahead and dream – from the braniac to the fisherman.
